What is the OSAA?
The Oregon School Activity Association is  a non-profit, board-governed organization comprised of its member schools, both private and public. The OSAA creates standardized rules of eligibility and competition regarding participation in interscholastic activities. The OSAA has a total of 287 member high schools. The OSAA is sanctioned by the Oregon State Board of Education and annually sponsors 80 state championships in 16 sports and activites.

Letter in Support of the Appeal
Kat and Jim Beal, parents of an Axemen athlete, have written a letter that was submitted at the appeal hearing with a list of 506 supporters. Read the letter

OSAA Rules - School Placement Criteria
The 122 page OSAA Handbook  includes information regarding OSAA Articles, Rules, Board Policies, Participation Limitations, Sport Seasons, and Official Fees.

Section 9.2 of the handbook deals with the Classification and Districting Committee, and provides that it is the duty and obligation of the committee to:
9.2(d)    To consider the following criteria, among any other they deem relevant, for recommending placement of schools in athletic districts:

    (1)      geographic location;
   
(2)      cost of travel;
   
(3)      scheduling problems;
   
(4)      athletic district balance;
   
(5)      athletic district history;
   
(6)      move as few schools as possible;
   
(7)      enrollment;
   
(8)      maintain schools within the same school district
               in the same league;
   
(9)      Loss of class time.

NOTE:  The above list is not in any priority order.
 

Midwestern League
South Eugene High School has been part of the Midwestern League since 1954. Sheldon joined the Midwestern League in 1963. The most recent addition to the league was Churchill in 1966. Information on the Midwestern League football and baseball traditions can be found a MwlNow!
