Marshfield High School is the largest high school on the Oregon coast with an enrollment of 1180 students. The Marshfield Pirates have a fantastic football tradition, including seven league championships in the 90's. The Pirates went 6-2 in the Midwestern League last year, with their only league losses coming from the Axemen and Sheldon. More on Pirate football history can be found here.

Last year's home victory was the first Axemen win over Marshfield in years. The Axemen Varsity hasn't won in Coos Bay for a couple of decades, but will be favored on Friday.

The Pirates got off to a rough start this year with a 30-19 loss at home to Crater. The Oregonlive.com coaches poll has Marshfield picked to finish third, and Marshfield was the only team besides Sheldon to get a vote to finish first. Find a complete recap of the Marshfield-Crater game from the Coos Bay World here.

The Register Guard's story on the Axemen's 20-0 season opening victory over Silverton can be found here.

Here is the Marshfield pre-season analysis from Oregonlive.com. As always, more good info can be found on the MWLNOW web site.
